A walk in the woods...(another)

Discussion in 'Macro, Flowers, Insects, and Greenery' started by Pa, Jun 12, 2005.

  1. Went for a walk in the high country to the west of here yesterday, on Salt Pond Mountain, at about 4000 feet. Flora very different up there.

    First, the ferns are magnificent:

The view at War Spur overlook is nice with the laurel in bloom:

The ferns against the rock make for an interesting picture:

The flame azaleas were prolific and the most intense colors I've ever seen, beginning with yellow:

    to deep red:

Some were just in the bud stage:

Finally, the yellow stargrass added interest:

  2. Pa, the ones i like the most are 1-6-5

I love the ferns against the rocks. I used to live in Philadelphia and did hiking and backpacking in the Appalachian Mountains. Your pictures remind me of the Great Smokies.

Pa, what a lovely hike. Thank you for taking us along. Are those azaleas at the end? The mountain laurel puts me in mind of Connecticut, where I used to live.
