how do I get it on my sb-600? It has a ring on it with 4 screws(sorta reminds me of a four jaw lathe chuck) but it is way to big to fit on my flash. I was hoping to use this for a small shoot on sunday, is there any DYI things I can do?

Thanks!

Micah I wonder if you bought the right softbox. To begin with, I hope you mentioned to the dealer you wanted the softbox for use with a portable flash. Those softboxes are usually pretty small.
I see more often a portable flash like the SB-600 in use with an umbrella, not a softbox.
Let's see what others have to say.

It sounds like you bought a generic softbox that requires an additional mounting ring for a monolight or bracket for a speedlight. All of the softboxes I've seen that are made for speedlights have L-shaped mounting brackets that attach to the softbox ring and to the lightstand. The bracket height is adjustable and has a cold shoe to accommodate a speedlight.

On strobist.com, I saw a photo showing bungy cords to provide a net of sorts around the speedlight for it to stay put in the softbox fixture.
