After waiting 6 wks to get my 200-400VR back from Nikon, I was informed yesterday that they're replacing it with a new one. Have no feelings about that either way, but will be glad to get one back. The problem it had was it wouldn't focus on anything distant, or visa versa. That is to say, if I was shooting something up close, then tried to focus on a distant object, the lens would just sit there and whir. Now, if I manually focussed it to get in the "ballpark" then it would snap to focus normally. This malady occurred while it was packed away, because it worked fine the last time I used it. Be glad to get it back, along with my Nikkor 12-24. It's also been in repair for 6 wks! I dropped it off the back of my car, so I know what happened to it!
