After two years, a new D3s

Hello all,

I started a couple of threads here asking questions about the D3s in the hope that I would someday get one.

Well, after two years of saving (and procrastinating), now I have one.

And to all of you who offered your opinions, well... you were right. This is one sweet machine.

I’ve been using a D2Hs for the past five-plus years and have had success with it (it was definitely the right camera for me at the time I bought it), but the D3s autofocus is better and the low light capabilities (the primary reason I bought it) are just outstanding. Images just seem sharper and crisper out of the D3s.

I’ve covered two night baseball games since I got it, both at the worst-lit field I go to regularly (and quite frankly the main reason I got the camera). I tried Hi 2 and Hi 3. Hi 2 seems very usable, about like 3200 or 6400 on the D2Hs. Hi 3 is a little noisier than I prefer, but hey, it’s an option if I need it.

I did buy from B&H on your suggestions, and it made sense because I also picked up an AF-S 300 f4, which you all also recommended. Again you were right on the mark. The 300 on the D3s is equivalent to my 80-200 on the D2hs. There are going to be times when I miss the zoom capability, but I’ve got options.

So lest I ramble on too much, thank you all for all your advice. For those of you who rave about your D3 and your D3s, I know why now and I agree completely.

Congrats on your new body!!! I've always wanted one but I think a D700 should last me long enough :p
