Is there a way to tell the age of a lens from the serial Number ?

Is there a way to tell the age of a lens from the serial Number ?

You can email Nikon Japan, they will eventually answer you, it took them 4 weeks to reply to my question on my Nikon F5, but they will answer if they have the answer. Usually they can tell you the date is was finsihed, the plant it was assembled at.
