I just bought a used (of course) 100 2.8 Series E AIS MF lens from B&H in good condition. It will be here Friday and I'm super excited to shoot with an AIS lens. I checked the lens sample archive and didn't see this lens in there.

    Anyone have any shots?

    EDIT:

Just got my lens today, here is the first photo! Her name is Bitsy, aka Sausage because she's fat!

Here's one of my favorite shots taken with the 100mm E-series that I took years back... This is actually the 100mm E-series with a rather unique and surprisingly high quality Vivitar 2x Macro Teleconverter on it.

It's a 7-element multicoated teleconverter that can move the elements around inside to achieve closer focus. Made by Kiron. If you give it a bit of a Google, you can come up with lots of info about it. They can be had quite inexpensively these days (Under $40).

Since i've gone back and looked at some of my shots with it, I'm going to try and pick up another one soon.

I have a few that I took around the garden with mine. Nothing particularly impressive, and all straight from the camera, since I don't do PP unless I really have to! But it's a great lens, and there's lots of sharp detail when photos are viewed at 100%

But be warned, these AiS lenses are addictive. I've recently acquired the 28mm 2.8, 35mm 1.4 and 50mm 1.2, all of which are stunning, and can also recommend the 105mm 1.8 and 180mm 2.8.

I've had this lens for a number of years and enjoy using it. For the price it can't be beat.

    100mm Series E @ f5.6 1/500th of second on a D700.

  10. I have an older version of the 100/2.8 series e (without chrome ring) that came with an N90X body I purchased last summer. It had oil on the aperture blades, but I took it apart and cleaned it up. After putting it back together, here's a shot I took of my son:

This has to be one of the all-time great Nikkor sleepers. For about $50 you can't beat it!

Paid $50 for mine about 4 years... sold it about 2 years ago for $100. Definitely a lens that goes up and down in value.

All these from a recent trip to Taiwan. I got some great portrait photos with it that I really like a lot too, but I'm not allowed to post those. Levels done on most, but no sharpening besides SmugMug default for web.

LOVE IT! Great little lens, very sharp even wide-open, and has nice bokeh too. And I picked it up for a whopping $40! :m35:

I've heard loads of good stuff about this lens.

It's really tiny considering the telephoto range it offers so it'll be probabally be great for travel and/or candids.

I'll probably end up using it for Wrestling at my school. The wrestlers usually stay in generally the same spot (not up and down a field) so manual focus isn't too hard.
