DETAILS: After seeing the bears at Brooks Falls, we spent 3 nights at the Aleyska Prince Hotel in Girdwood http://www.alyeskaresort.com It is a classy ski resort in the winter and a fancy place. There is a cable gondola to the top of the mountain which offers a nice scenic view.
We took a 1/2 day excursion to Portage Valley. It is a very scenic place and we hiked up to Byron Glacier. There is a very nice Begich-Boggs Visitor Center there.
The Bore Tide is a strange event where the tide comes in as a single wave up the Turnagain Arm. Surfers in wet suits can ride it for several miles. It does not happen every day. The information person at the hotel had bad information, but we found a good schedule at the Begich-Boggs Visitor Center at Portage Valley.
We took an all day drive to Seward and visited the Alaska Sea Life Center and walked around the quaint town.
