Cemeteries are wonderful stores of learning, surprise, emotion, respect... they mark for us the permanence of the loss, the magnitude of the sacrifice. We are still in awe of any person who gives up his or her life for others. But especially we honor the dead who gave their lives so that we could have this life.

A fitting entry into Lent.
