Not at all the greatest cardinal image I've shot, but I am amazed at the detail in an images captured at ISO 12,800.

Agree about the level of noise in a D6. But a LOT of credit for the fine feather details also goes to shooting a 400mm/f2.8!!!!!! And maybe a bit to the photographer, too! :p

I’m an old fart that started shooting color film with an asa of 10, then 25, then 64.
Thinking about iso 12800 makes my head hurt. That is about 10 stops!! 1000 times as fast. Amazing.
It is a great time to be a photographer. Especially using really nice high end equipment.

Right? I'm an old fart that learned photography in the Army, where the Counterintelligence and 7th Group folks taught me how to push ASA 400 Tri X Pan to 1600 in order to image suspects or things we wanted to target. ISO 12,800 and a clear image is like witchery. It's cheating. And I love it.
