Well spotted, these are quite prehistoric looking creatures aren't they :)

Thanks Roger. They have become easier to spot since the park has turned green again. They really blend into the background during the winter months.
I never thought about them looking prehistoric, but you are right. They are prehistoric looking.

We had Bitterns on a reserve local to me for about 2 months until recently and spotting them amidst the brown tall reeds was always challenging :)

  5. Well done. I know how difficult this bird is to see in the first place, well done.

Even with the change in the seasons, the birds seem to appear out of nowhere.

  7. Along with Kingfishers, these buggers just seem to elude me. Getting them this much out in the open is grand, I far prefer the first two to the third one.

  8. Great detail, I have shots of them that looks like the reeds they are in! Well done!

Thanks, I have had a good time photographing them. They can be difficult to spot. So finding one is an accomplishment in itself.

I had never seen one at the park before this year. I had heard they were there but I could never find them. As to the kingfisher, I have been lucky. I have actually seen two this year.

I suspect the second was a bit vicious as he had his own warning sign.
