An exciting wedding in Lisbon, Portugal

Just got back from a friend’s wedding in Lisbon, Portugal – a big, family-style affair held at her mother’s house. It was great fun, with good food, lots of dancing, and partying until the wee hours of the morning. When I got back, I realised I’d snapped over 800 shots.

I was armed with my old-but-reliable Fuji S2 Pro, 50mm 1.4, 85mm 1.8, 35-70mm f2.8 and 80-200mm f2.8, plus a single SB-600 with a home-made Better Bounce Card.

Hope you enjoy the shots…

You can tell that Latin women are feisty, can’t you?

Dance lessons. Though not quite enough for those of us with two left feet

First dance. More impressive than the side-to-side shuffle I did at my own wedding. ;)

Fire-blowing as they cut the wedding cake

Normally I don’t take these sort of photos, but no one took them at my wedding and I wish they had. It was also a great chance to use some of the fast primes I brought with me to really play with the depth-of-field. I’m pretty happy with how they came out…

It was a fun time, and they really had a lot of unusual touches that made the wedding stand out. It was also very clearly a family affair, less focus on the bride & groom and more focus on everyone being together and sharing the celebration.

Lovely photos. I would love to shoot a wedding in Portugal one day!

Not if you knew how hot it was! The bride's family (Portuguese, dark and tanned) made the wise move of grabbing the good seats in the shade, leaving the groom's family and friends (English, pasty and white!) to sit in the blistering sun!!!
