I was in Val Camonica near Brescia in Northern Italy for work, but I managed to have the afternoon free to explore one of the three main Prehistoric "Rock Art" museums. The carvings span the the time from Neolithic right through to the Middle ages.

Less well known than the spectacular "Parco nazionale delle incisioni rupestri di Naquane " and the "Parco archeologico comunale di Seradina-Bedolina ", both at Capo di Ponte, the "Riserva naturale Incisioni rupestri di Ceto, Cimbergo e Paspardo " covers a vast area around three villages. The most interesting area is the Foppe di Nadro site near Ceto.

You need a sunny day to visit these sites as the incisions disappear when the rocks are in the shadows.

It was also fascinating whilst having a beer at a bar to hear the locals talking in their gruff incomprensibile dialect.

I took a full compliment of lenses, but ended up shooting with the 24-200 as It was just so flexible to switch from wide views to close ups.

I am so glad I got to see these!! I would love to visit this place. Your photos are excellent.

Thank you.

If you ever get the chance to visit the Italian Lakes, a days detour to Capo Di Ponte will make for a magical day out.

These pictures are of the less important sites. the main site at Naquane is spectacular.

These sites are outside the urban area and it takes a bit of walking to get to them.
