Also in 1954, the SD-4 was introduced. This was the largest Sheppard tractor and included several innovations. The most important of these was a Sheppard-designed and built power steering unit. The power steering unit was later applied to heavy-duty trucks and eventually became the primary product of the company.

    * An optional under/over-drive auxiliary transmission was available for the SD-2 and SD-3 which gave 8 speeds.
** A torque converter was optional on the SD-4.

    Tim,

Nice captures of some fine equipment.

I think the John Deere is a Model D

Yep, the old ones were a little slow, but plenty of torque, and they'd run forever. I was hoping to see my old Minneapolis-Moline U that I sold after only 50 years of use

  7. I like the sepia in general.
Tractorwise, the John Deere looks good with the seat clear of the wheels.
It kind of looks motorcycle chopperesque....
It looks like one would have a good chance of being thrown clear if it was rolled.
I see too many farmers killed in this hilly country we call NZ and can appreciate safe design.:Smoking:
