The truck just arrived today with my copies of The China Doll, a children's book about autism I've written. Through the story of a little girl who receives a very special doll, children in grades K-3 learn about some of the common behaviors of those with autism. A special section in the back of the book for parents and educators provides tips for facilitating interaction between children and their peers with autism. My younger son has autism, and I wrote this book when I realized (after an incident on the school playground) there were no appropriate books about autism for young children. I was very fortunate to work with a fabulous artist, Robert Jones, who brought the story to life with vivid watercolor illustrations. I'm extremely excited about this book, of course, and I hope you will spread the word about it to anyone you know who might be interested. Parents, teachers, therapists, school librarians, local libraries--everyone can benefit from this book!
