There are now 2 families of whistling ducks at the wetlands. The first family started with 18 ducklings and I saw them today with 7 young ones left. Here is a pic of one of them.

I also spotted another family with brand new babies. I counted 26 ducklings! However, as I was watching them, a gator attacked. The parents were trying to get all the babies out of the water. I spotted the reeds moving and knew something was under the water. It exploded into the family as they were in the reeds. It kept lunging and splashing in the reeds. I never saw the gator take any ducklings but after the attack there were only 20 babies left.

Before the attack.

The kingfishers are back. They leave for the summer to breed up north. Now they are back again to tease and frustrate me.

These two were having a territorial dispute.

Fabulous, Jess! That gallinule's got some feet on it, don't it???

Love the close-up of the little baby duck. I wonder if one can buy BBWDuckling stuffed animals?

Excellent set Jessie. Pretty sad about the chicks, but I guess the gators gotta eat too. Too bad they can't pick on something a little less cute.

I like the little duck in the grass best. The pose brings outs its vulnerability. And I am always jealous of flying kingfisher shots.
