Taken in a completely dark room--- the only light is from the screen of her Nintendo DS.

    ISO 6400
    85 1.4 @ 1.4
    1/80 hand held
    Manual exposure
    Spot Metering

ETA: all that business going on in the background on the right side isn't there in photoshop.

Very nice Lisa. What metering did you use - spot or matrix etc? Where is the light source (Nintendo screen) in relation to her face?

  3. Looks like she is holding the DS right in front of her.

Lisa, very nice capture, man do I want one of these.

    Thank you.

Yes, it is right in front of her--- that pink thing is it. I use spot metering 95% of the time. I just prefer it. I like how it makes the background a bit darker.

Wow! Great shot, beautiful daughter (she looks like you in your avatar!)

I am very jealous (of the D700) right now

Francis--- have you gone that high? I may go try it if I can get her to turn her DS back on.

Thanks Lisa, Leigh and Geoff. I got my D300 last year for Christmas. I loved it too but had on been on the fence about switching brands to the dark side {lol} b/c I wanted the full frame sensor. So glad I tried the D700 out. No regrets.

    While getting noisy in the background I'm still so impressed w/ the lack of noise where it's exposed properly {well, kind of, lol}

That's the key to shooting high ISO, you still have to expose properly and use the histogram to make sure things are balanced.

    Great shots!

    Outstanding shot and excellent composure.

  15. She is a very pretty young lady and those are nice shots of her. As for the hi iso capabilities of the D700, WOW, the detail at the focal point is very good and the noise level, at least at this size, is outstanding. Now I want a D700.

  16. I'm sold! That is an amazing picture...well done!
