Another "Have you seen KEH prices lately" post

Discussion in 'Lens Lust' started by LSUDVM, Aug 16, 2009.

  1. I was just browsing lenses at KEH. I checked prices on the 80200 AFS lens. I was shocked to see that LN was $1800 and EX is $1539. These are 70-200 v1 prices. It wasnt too long ago that they were being sold for $1200-1300. I am glad i have my copy.
  2. I just bought my 2-ring version (not AF-S) for $500 in very good condition.... I guess that's a great bargain

    I got my 80-200 AFs for $900. I can't believe it's doubled or better ... that's just nuts!
  4. And I'm sitting here biting my finger nails cause I want one, just not at that PRICE! :O
  5. they have a BGN condition afs lens for 999 which is about $100 higher than a few mos ago. It lacks the tripod mount which i assume means collar.
  6. I too am a happy camper - bought mine for $350 off Ebay and had Nikon Melville service for ~$400. Heck with these prices i could sell mine and have enough for a 70-200 v1.

I'm sorry, but that is a ridiculous price.

KEH is out of control. In fact I'm done with them. They are no different than the oil companies now. The free market run amok!

  9. I agree, people used to rely on KEH for a great deal and the company got started on word of mouth marketing...

now they are just tarnishing their name

Perhaps its the beginning of the end for them as EbaY and other FS Forums are becoming more popular

How dare a company try to make a profit.

I doubt it. The 80-200 afs is no longer made and has been a high demand lens in the used market. Looking at their 70-200 VR shows a price of around 1700-1800. There are also more of those on sale than have been in a while. Probably because people are dumping their lens getting ready for the new one.

The up side is there paying more for glass. So I don t see the problem. For the last year many of us followed the saying of "Get when the getting was good. " Another good thing is , many hard to find items are now coming out of the closest and shelves and making there way to my door, I mean Keh:biggrin:.

If you are curious to see whether there is an insult added to an injury take a lens or two they sold you to their appraiser next time they are in SoCal to see how they value/grade them when they are the ones making an offer.

    Are you sure?
  14. They are a re-seller of used merchandise. This is their livelihood. They have earned a rep on a valued representation, with very accurate grading. Take it or leave it, but they are going to squeeze the juice out of everything except BGN.

However, coming from someone who has re-sold over 7,000 used vehicles in the wholesale marketplace, they can blemish themselves as I have found out. They had once held me up on a confirmed, placed internet order because a salesman had a possible sale on the same lens from a telephone call. They called me and said that my order was now pending. 30 minutes later they called back to reinstate my order....I ended up canceling the order of a $3,000 lens.....hey, this happens when you have a few hands in the pot.

LOL@ free market system run amok.

It is one of the few systems with the ultimate check and balance; your ability to say "no thanks".

I was just browsing KEH a few weeks ago for some other lenses and their prices are all up on them. :(

    Thank you, I completely agree.

I don't think we need this thread to go down the road of a political discussion re free market capitalism vs socialism.
  18. The collar on the 80-200 AFS just sucks anyway. Mine doesn't work smoothly at all and it's not very sturdy anyway. I usually shoot without it.

I got my 80-200 from them years ago. Let's be honest. This lesn is no longer made and the current thinking is that it works better on an FX camera than the 70-200. Therefore there is more pressure to sell higher.
Have you looked at the value of the 58mm NOCT Nikkor or the 28mm f1.4 lately?
To the guy who was spewing hate onto KEH: That is your right, but if you were in their place, you would be doing the same thing if you were smart. They have to make money where they can, when they can. If they give their stock away, you wouldn't be on here crying that they were closed becuase they couldn't pay their bills.

  20. I browse KEH everyday. If an item I want is listed as "can't afford", I smile and move on to the next item. Once I find an item that I like and the price is right, I simply press "Add to Cart". It's simple, really.

Life is too short to hate... KEH is a wonderful place.
