Would this be a female? I'm still learning about them and am wondering if this is just a young male who hasn't turned red yet or if it's a female. Do the females go around the water? Just wondering.

The males have red stigmas. This one was far from water but I have seen them close to ponds as well. Actually the nearest open water that they prefer for breeding is miles away
