While in Charleston, S.C., the aquarium was having a show on the Amazon. While walking outside, we came upon this creature which the staff was allowing to get some exercise and eat a few bugs. First time seeing an Ant Eater up close.

Beautiful Image.

There must be different varieties of Ant Eaters. The one at our zoo is huge.

Gil,

That is a strange looking animal. I've never seen one either. It looks much more smooth-furred than I expected.

Very nice shot.

Thank you every one for the nice comments. And, yes, we did watch it move for sometime. The front claws are curved so the animal walks on its knuckles, like a sloth. He uses his nose to smell out small insects. He found a few grubs and was very happy with his meal. Very slow in movement, but fascinating to watch.
