Antarctica #2 - Seals In South Georgia

Discussion in 'Birds' started by bobhoge, May 13, 2005.

  1. The many male Fur Seals were waiting for the girls to arrive. They were VERY territorial and aggressive. You did not want to get close:

These Elephant Seals, by contrast, had finished their breeding season and were blissful:

One of the big 8,000 pound males would occasionally put on a token show of aggression:
    13737636-M.

Not sure if this was a roar or a yawn, you could get very close:
    13737682-M.

    The young seals were cute:

All photos taken on South Georgia. The trip review is in Places to Shoot at https://www.nikoncafe.com//forums/viewtopic.php?t=3916

  2. I have been around elephant seal at Anna Neuvo beach in California. They can be pretty agressive and I certainly wouldn't want to tangle with one of those huge animals. Good images Bob.
