If you're ever in the area and get the chance to visit this place I'd highly recommend it. The Great Annual Steam Up is scheduled for late July and early August. All the antique engines are fired up and paraded through the property for all to see and photograph. My favorite are the turn of the century steam tractors. They also have Cats, Fire engines and old work engines of all types. Onsite is an old Steam sawmill that they fire up and run logs through it. Be prepared for lots of smoke, dust and noise...and fun of course.
All shots were taken with my old D70 and 80-400mm vr... wish I had brought along a shorter lens.
Nothing special as i was just taking snap shots.

That is really cool. I've got to tell my dad about this. He would enjoy it. I like the shots you made b/w. It seems perfect for the subject. I like the big yellow Cat stuff too. Oh, and I like that "let's run in front of a giant machine that could kill us" thinking too.:confused::confused:

Yes they are!
I was like a kid in a candy store! Lots of Iron, smoke and whirling things.

This is truly an amazing event. Engines, farm implements, cars, trucks, buy/sell, train rides, saw mill, etc. Bring sun block, a hat, and a place to sit. It is a family friendly event too. You can buy most any kind of food, including ice cream turned by a steam engine. Just make sure to handle the heat because there is not a lot of shade not already occupied by the exhibitors. Summer in the Willamette valley is July 5th through Labor Day. The other days you need a raincoat.

I might have to ride my motorcycle down and take some images of this event. Looks like a lot of fun.
