I went out to take some pictures of ants which meant grabbing the bellows and el-nikkor 50mm f2.8 enlarger lens. These were all shot in about the 4x - 5x range...handheld withe the SB-600 fired wireless. Yellow sugar water was used as bait.

Thanks for the nice comments everybody.

Very nice set!

Is it workable? Using a bellows handheld?

It is almost exclusively how I use my bellows. I won't lie....it's quite cumbersome, but like all macro shooting, once you practice and get the hang of it, it gets a bit easier to manage. One of the difficult parts is that I have to use live view as the viewfinder is way too dark (nearly black) because of the long bellows, but when using Live View, the scene is nice and bright on the screen for me to see for focusing. This is not as easy for me to get clear shots though as I shoot better using the viewfinder (I'm much more steady with the camera pressed against my face).
