Any pics of Cow Ant or velvet Ant/ wasp??

Discussion in 'Macro, Flowers, Insects, and Greenery' started by TomP, Jul 19, 2008.

  1. Does anyone have any natural in the wild pics of this subject??

For years i have tried to get a close up pic of a cow ant, common name here in the south. It is actually a solitary wasp, and I have added a link for those interested.

I have pursued these critters since I was a child, and they are very fast and move in an erratic manner like a butterfly, making them a very hard subject to capture in a pic. They run and hide when approached, and if you handle them you get the fuzz covered in dirt making a lousy pic, and risk a horrible sting to boot..
