Anyone here getting Aperture?

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by Scott Sherman, Nov 27, 2005.

  1. I just got an email from Apple that it has shipped and I was wondering if anyone else here has ordered it also to compare notes and first impressions etc.

I would have ordered if it would have worked on either of my Mac's...
Hard to believe it won't run on a Dual 1.25 G4....
  3. The checker said that Aperture can be installed in my 14" iBook. But I doubt if it can run at a reasonable speed.
  4. I'm pretty sure that the forums will be full of people that tried it with every configuration of hardware including yours. Many will have Apeture in thier hands on Monday, so check online periodically for the info.

Here is a DPR thread that has potential to respond to your doubts...

Here are a few pretty good sources of info and I am sure any of these will have a whole bunch of stuff within the next few weeks. Obviously the old standbys will also be doing their review Rob Galbraith, Phil Askey, Thom Hogan, etc. and hopfully some here. I'm sure that there are many, many more.

    Tuesday - I think?

My school ordered it for me. Running it will not be a problem, however, I have a tendency to move slow with new software.

I do not mind change, but it better be worth my while. I do not like doing double work.
  6. Hmmmmm.....interesting

Just ran the Aperture Checker application on my system (dual 2.0 G5)....says no because of the graphics card (GeForce FX 5200)...

thought I had a pretty decent setup.....guess not...

I will be getting it n a week or two will let you know how I make out
  8. I got an email to from Apple stating that Apeture was shipped. I ran the checker on my 15" Powerbook and it said it was compatible. I have maxed out the RAM at 2 gigs.......hope that's enough.

I would purchase Aperture if they decide to port it over to PC.

  10. James,
I wish they would do that too but it seems unlikely. I am not sure how strong a commitment Apple has to Apeture since they are hardware makers first. Apple is to Apeture kind of like Nikon is to NC. Since they have restricted the use not only to Mac users, but only very, very high end users, the revenue source may not justify a lot of continued development. I suspect they are hoping to sell more of their high end machines to current Mac users and converts. i guess only time will tell for sure.

I do feel that they have a winner on their hands with this based on all the forum traffic and my own reaction to what I see on the promotional material. I don't really need it, but I want it and I suspect this is the kind of potential customer they are counting on. If it is widely accepted in the first year, it should become a great program as it evolves from year to year.

I can see a cult of Apeture users becoming sort of unoffical hackers and making 3rd party solutions using Automator or whatever for things not built into Apeture in much the same way as Photoshop and GoLive have a strong following of plugin and action makers for free and for sale.

Anyway, they got my attention and I suspect the attention of many others and we will all be watching this app very closely in hopes it succeeds.

Scott, be sure to tell us what you think the moment you get your software. I just ordered mine yesterday.
  12. This is my opinion and not my employer, but I think we can safely say that Apple is committed to software.

I'll be very curious to hear what everyone thinks of Aperture.

  13. just another way for you to spend the $3299 on a quad processor

    2.5GHz Quad-core PowerPC G5

Then in two years you can sell it off for about $500 to put toward some new equipment.
  15. I'd love to get it, but my $500 is already reserved for a new lens and flash. I'll probably also get an LCD display before Aperature. I am very curious about owners' opinions though. I'm also wondering what the upgrade price will be and how often Apple will release upgrades. Time will tell.
  16. Well, I have installed Apeture and started playing around with it. I like what I see so far, but there is a lot of stuff to learn. I haven't processed and images yet....still getting use to the interface. Apeture seems to be running fine on my 1.25 Powerbook w/ 2 gigs of RAM.

    More to come later.......................
  17. Cool....which video card do you have Scott..???
  18. I got mine the other day. Runs great on my dual 2ghz G5. This is my first "pro" app with Apple and I"m having to read the manual!

What I have seen I like!
  19. The ATI Mobility Radeon 9600 that came with my 15" PB.
