Anyone using the 300 f4 and 1.7tc on a D2H?

if so, how bad is the AF. I found it really slowed down the AF locking target on my D100 when I borrowed the tc to put on my 300 f4. I am considering it for the D2H. I can get one for $329 new.

You are using the proper combo yes?

1. 300 f/4 AF-S will only work with the TC17IIE AF-S teleconverter. Shouldn't have any problems. However, be warned that Nikon does not like the 1.7 and the 2.0 used on the 300 f/4 AFS for autofocus reasons. But, many users have said that the 1.7 works without issue however.

2. 300 f/4 non-AFS will not work with the TC17IIE AFS but will work with a non-AFS teleconverter. It is not recommended that you mount the two together.

Anyway I hope this helps ;)

The 300 4 works fine with the TC-1.7 however it does focus slower, especially in low light.

Gale, that's the 200 f2, I've played with this beast,

in the camera shop. If ever there were a lens that deserves to be called "beast" this is the one! @6.4 lbs, and just 8in long, (before attaching the hood), it's a real monster! I want one!

Gale, I probably will hold for now. I need a vacation more than a $5k body now. Besides, would have to get a new computer to handle the large files.

Gale,

Surprise....It's the 200 2 VR. It is a great optic, but I will say it is very difficult to use properly. I shouldn't do this because everyone will hate me here, but here are some samples from my son's ball game today. Unfortunately I did not get any good shots of him though.

Also these are shot with a D2H. After using the D2X for quite some time, it was interesting shooting the original D2H and coming home to that super saturation. It really works well for sports.

Doc,

When I first got my D2X and loaded some NEF files in my computer actually completely choked, but then I realized I was shooting uncompressed NEFs which were about 45MB each....Ouch. I put a Gig of RAM in my old 1.6Ghz Dell and switched to Compressed NEFs and we are running much better. It is nowhere near as fast as with a D2H or D70 file, but it is very tolerable.

Well as far as my son goes, I just wasn't in sink with when he was playing. I also had my younger son with me and had to keep up with him too.

Yea Franks face is pretty red.....I kinda remember it that way too. I think he works outside and had a bit of a burn going on. I tried to offset it but then his arm turned blue....and that wasn't cool. And I kinda like the effect.

As far as the lens goes, it is a great lens, but I miss many shots since I am not yet used to the depth of field being so shallow.
