Aokatec AK-G1s GPS receiver

May 15, 2011
I just purchased the Aokatec AK-G1s GPS receiver for my D700. I also purchased the AK-RS remote switch. I did review several GPS options for the D700 and I liked this one the best. It is compact and fits (plugs into) on the 10 pin connection on the body. The AK-G1s screws onto the connection so no need to worry about coming loose and falling off. It does work off the camera battery but the unit has an on/off switch to use when not in use. The AK_RS remote switch plugs into a small connector on the GPS unit for those times when you need to use a wired shutter release. I took a photo outside our house then loaded it into LR3. Looking at the EXIF data I saw the GPS data. If you click the little arrow next to the GPS data it opens Goggle Earth and displays the area where the photo was taken. The AK-G1s is small enough that I will leave it on the body as it is not in my way. The Aokatec company site is here and the company you can order from in the US (Semons, Inc) is here By the way, this unit will work with several other bodies. Also you may need turn to on the GPS function in the menu of your camera.
