Apple/Tiger fix for unlocking NC with 4.0 software serial

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by Scott Sherman, May 5, 2005.

  1. Nikon Capture 4.0 does not work with Tiger. NC 4.2.1 does work. You can not unlock the downloaded version of 4.2.1 with the 4.0 serial number. If you were an original owner of the 4.0 version, Nikon has changed its unlock code configuration since 4.0 and they will not re-issue a new number. I sent an email to Nikon to find out how to unlock 4.0 on Tiger so that I could then upgrade it to 4.2.1. Here is the response from a Nikon representative, (Jason)

good luck. I complained that the new version was a free upgrade of the 4.0 version so why not just trade the old unlock serial for a new unlock serial to avoid the very cumbersome process and was told that Nikon will just not do that.

    Hi Scott,

There's going to be a bit of trickery involved with getting Capture 4.2.1 on your Tiger system. First uninstall the version 4.2.1 that you downloaded and installed. Now install the Capture 4 CD that you purchased. Once it's installed, open it and validate it with your keycode. At this point, I'd like you to visit http://www.paceap.com and go to the Download > Drivers page. From there download the Pace Interlok Drivers for Mac OSX. If you're having a hard time downloading from there, try Ctrl-Clicking on the download link and choosing "Download Link to Drive". Open the .DMG file that you downloaded and run the installer.

Once finished, you can install the Capture 4.2.1 download which should update you to the proper version. If you have any other questions or comments, feel free to contact us any time. We are open 24 hours a day, and our phone number is 1-800-645-6689 (Option 1).

I'd say explicit instructions and a 24 hour help line is a durn sight better than you'd get from most software vendors. Especially for a $100 program.

That said, all this extra trouble is to join into the 'digital millenium' focus on intellectual property.
