No, because it is not a surface treatment, but an integral part of the construction of the metal. Historically, it was used in barrel making for guns and has been taken up by bespoke knife makers. The method is complicated to describe and Wikki is not particularly helpful on how the process works, FWIW. Basically, different types of metal are pounded together, then rolled (like kneading dough) and pounded flat to produce the desired effect.

I just added to my collection!!!!! I picked up the Spyderco Manix Moon Glow!!! I'm VERY exited about getting this knife!!! It was EXPENSIVE, but well worth it!!!

My new purchase is all lunitic's fault!!!! LOL. I saw his post along with a photo of his new Manix!!!

Gonna take some photos and post.

Congratulations! I actually got a black version of the Manix blade as well, so I have a picture to take and post as well.

Hospital knife

A few years ago my wife was in the hospital for a few days, of course that did not deter me from attending the local gun show, so I got her this as a present.

Not the greatest capture, but I like the tracks on the handle.

I like this shot, very pretty handle, and Ed I must say that it was most considerate of you give your wife a hospital present, did it come with a vacuum cleaner ??

I love Laguiole and Opinels. Unfortunately when I moved to the UK I had to leave them behind.
Opinels are very practical. I used to carry a #7 or #8, it always did the job.

Laguiole with the essential corkscrew opener. ;-)

A #8 Opinel was the first thing I bought each time I went to Europe. We traveled the back roads over there with only our back packs.
