Army adopts Stetson Hat as new standard headgear

Anyway, the only outfit that was allowed(how ever begrudgingly) in the most recent modern army(Vietnam era) to wear stetsons was the First AIR Cavalry of which my brother served as a combat helicopter pilot.
Thank you, I thought they were already allowed (albeit in unique instances).

K-9 Stetsons will also be issued in conjunction with Doggles to ensure explosive detection dogs have maximum protection, while looking as fierce as their handlers.

The Dutch Apache pilots do wear a Stetson a la the 1st air cavalry.

Too bad it's a joke. A stetson would make a heck of a lot more sense than that silly beret. (Except for the units for which it had special meaning originally, i.e. Special Forces)

But what do I know. I was Navy, so don't get started on our headgear...
