At the Arctic Circle - Grimsey Island, Iceland

  1. We stopped at Grimsey Island which lies about 25 miles north of "mainland" Iceland. It is a small island with a little village, mostly fishermen, with a population of just 155. We almost doubled the population during our visit.:rolleyes:


    The Arctic Circle passes through the center of the island, shown by this marker:

    The ships bartender brought in a table and poured champaign to celebrate the crossing:

    It was about 10:30PM when it was time to go back to the ship and the sun would not set that night. Hours of great light on the mountains back on the mainland:


    On the way back to the ship, our zodiac driver found a sea cave to explore:

    These Kittiwakes were nesting on the edge of the sea cave, taken from the moving zodiac,
