Baby Central!

Discussion in 'People' started by Terri French, Apr 15, 2007.

  1. Sounds like lots of cafe members are enjoying babies right now. My house feels like "Baby Central". Having three little newborns spending a lot of time here is a real treat.

Little Harlee was here a lot last week, so I got a few of her. She is two months old now.

Do any of you know of a good resource for baby pose ideas?

    Look how pretty I am!

  2. These are really precious and if you can figure out how to get a baby to pose, I'm all ears. I just thought it was something they did naturally when they weren't drooling or pooping.

  3. Thanks Woody. I guess I meant place the baby, not pose. Yes, they are a challenge. The twins are coming over in an hour or so for me to take some photos of them. Now getting two to cooperate at once should really be a challenge.
  4. Beautiful Terri.................

    Certainly made me smile!

  5. Here's some websites I found that might be helpful:
    Here's ONE

Here's another but it starts off by telling you to use a tripod... might be good for sleeping babies.

    and here's another.

Try Googling Tips for photographing babies and see if you find anything.
  6. Woody,
I just started reading your links, but the babies just got here. I will certainly read what you have found. Thank you very much!

Beautiful photos of beautiful babies, and you captured each with a perfect expression. Very nice Terri.

I miss those days - my babies are 2 and 4 yrs old already.
  9. Wow She is adorable. Love her eyes. Just wanted to let you know ever since I have joined the cafe I look forward to your posts.

    oh Sooooo Cute!

Again, I am certainly not a pro; but people keep pushing me and they are happy with the shots I get even though I see the flaws.

In shooting so many little babies I have learned how to create a "position-er" out of "The Boppy" In this shot of a 2 month old I placed the fatest part of the boppy on an ottoman, covered with non-busy patterned baby blanket. I had the mom place the baby so that her arm pits were high up on the boppy bearing most of her weight holding her up. The mom is ALWAYS within reach of the baby and I use my free hand to get the babies attention waving a toy.

    2 mosold

Another thing I focus on is the babies age and what they are doing at that point..2 mos they hold head up....so belly shots show their current developmental status. Try to keep the shot as uncluttered as possible.

In this shot laying on a pillow tucked inside the basket:2 mos old

For the Twins this semi- side lying shot would work...I used my couch..put baby 1 on a pillow or two to get him higher..put baby 2 below him on the couch with a pillow to raise his head//blanket was used for backdrop and to cover pillows...so they would be in the same position except one is higher.

I think this one was a 3 mos old. On pillows, upper body was raised up a bit. Furry rug and toole

It really is trial and error. But can be Lots of fun!! I found myself feeling so pressured when shooting my grandchildren...other babies I was much more relaxed. I was always feeling rushed and wanted perfection. Once I took a deep breath and slowed myself down I began doing better with the grandchildren.
Time goes by so quickly and I felt it was my responsibility to capture every special little moment.

Now I have a plan. I shoot only at one month intervals for the "studio" type shots for the first year. I decide what I want to focus on and capture prior to having them in front of the camera. Then all the other "snaps" I take during visits are not quite as important and the pressure I felt went away.

Hope it helps you some. Don't forget to look at pro websites for ideas on posing.
  11. Thank you so much Graeme. It's nice to be able to post here with so many others who love children and photos of them.

    Thank you very much Marcos

Two and four year olds are still babies. My babies are 27, 25, 22, and 17. Let me tell you, it's true that being a grandparent is even more fun than being a parent.

How nice, Sarah. Glad you enjoy my posts. Sometimes I worry that I share far too many photos. But, no one has ignored me or told me to stop yet, so I keep posting away!
  12. Trish,
Your photos are always so fantastic. These are no exceptions. I love you ideas. I'm going to purchase some toole right away. It sure is a fun addition to the photos. I hope you don't mind, but I think I will try a basket shot. Amber has a large laundry basket like yours.
  13. Absolutley priceless - every photo! I love baby photos but too chicken to try it myself! Besides my youngest baby is 6 and will be 7 in may!
  14. Terri, these shots are beautiful and so is the baby. You don't need any help with posing, you are doing great.

    You might enjoy looking here.

I loved all of these shots, Terri! I can't believe how much Harlee has grown! I know you must be in heaven with all of your grandbabies so close to you now!

    Hugs to all!
