While fishing the Nicola Valley area, I came across a family of Badgers. This turns out to be BIG news as they are an endangered species up here in BC and seeing them reproducing and expanding their range is encouraging.
The Ministry of Environment was thrilled when I sent them these photos.

Seeing a Badger was a first for me. The whole sighting took less than 10 seconds before they were gone, hence the photo quality.

Maybe they will name it after me ... West Badger, or they will invite me to go on a Global speaking tour ... or ....
It always pays to get off the main road. Also saw a Black bear and a Grizzly, but they were beyond my 70-200 reach (seriously).

I've seen Grizzlies feeding on salad/grass by the side of a road and they just ignore you. Problems usually arise when you surprise them on a trail or they are with cubs.

Good for you West, and happy to hear this is a sign they are coming back. I've only see one in the wild quite some time ago in Wyoming.

Wonderful catch and great news! Thank you for sharing with us and with Ministry of Environment. It's fascinating to see that the "wait up, Mom!" facial expression is universal !

I'm jealous! Seen a couple, but at a distance. The last one was scavenging for dead birds at the base of a wind turbine along the Colombia Gorge.
