Baja California #17 - The Largest Animal

  1. The largest animal to ever live is the Blue Whale, the largest recorded were over 110 feet long. The ones we saw were estimated at 85 to 90 feet long. While on our adventure in Baja California we saw Blue Whales on 7 of the 12 days we were cruising in both the Pacific Ocean and in the Sea of Cortes.

    You don't see much of the Blue Whale at one time, so you don't get a feel for how big they really are. Most of the shots look like this:

    I took a series of shots during a close encounter while the Blue Whale surfaced and slipped by getting these shots:

    I then made this composite by matching the grey-on-grey pattern on the back of the whale. Maybe this will help you see how big they are: Still missing part of the head and most of the tail :eek: :eek: :
