Baja California #20 - Cruising for Composition

Discussion in 'Miscellany' started by bobhoge, Apr 19, 2007.

  1. In one of the early threads about this trip, I mentioned that one of the benefits of a Lindblad Photo Expedition over their regular trips was that they sometimes went "Cruising for Composition". I did not explain what that meant, but now i will. The Photo Expedition Leader will work with the Captain of the ship to position the ship in a spot where the background makes for interesting photos. Then we do the rest...

On the last evening we had a spectacular sunset:

The ship crept along very slowly until we found just what we needed (a whale spout) in the foreground:

Later that evening we got this view:

And they found this Sperm Whale to add to the image, (a lot easier than using Photoshop  ):

It even dove right on cue to make a dramatic exit:

Sometimes we went by zodiac for other compositions:

you got a whale tail that close with a sunset? I'd die for that in Hawaii.
