Baja California #22 - Cardon Cactus

Discussion in 'Macro, Flowers, Insects, and Greenery' started by bobhoge, Apr 21, 2007.

  1. One of the interesting things for those of us who live in wetter climates is the plants of the desert that we saw during our adventures in Baja California.

On several of the islands in the Sea of Cortes there are places where the cacti get quite large. The biggest cactus in the world is the Cardon which can get to 60 feet tall and lives up to 300 years.

These photos are from Isla Santa Catalina:

They come in all sorts of shapes:

    And in vast numbers:

Conditions were right for them to bloom while we were there:

Other Cacti will be in #23,
    Bob & Nan
