BCNH nest near Boston but follow the herring that move upstream. A town in Massachusetts built a fish ladder where once was a small waterfall. This ladder allows the herring to make small jumps up the ladder to to get to higher section of river to move upstream. So much easier for the herring. However, the night herons have learned this makes for easier fishing so a group gathers each year during the herring migration. Here are a few bcnh waiting for fish.

Thanks Mitch. I also like the ones that clearly show the yellow feet under the water.

When I am in Florida I like that when I go to a photo location I *know* there will be birds to photgraph. It is not the same here. Many times I go to a spot and come home without taking a single shot. So it is good to know that when I go to this spot (at least for a few weeks) herons will be there.
