I ran into this guy while out shooting birds. It's that time of the year.
Nice and close, Jimmy. Nice shot.
Almost looks like a Bull Snake - Kind of difficult for me to tell - the eyes didn't appear to be elipitical in shape - more round.........From the angle - didn't appear to be a poisonous snake - Only about 20% of the snake encounters are with poisonous snakes.........Best advice though - leave them be - they'll usually leave you alone as well
Great pictures though....
From what I could find on the internet it matches up with a cottonmouth rather closely.
Scare the devil out of me.
Yep be careful for sure.
I try to look all around me all the time.
Hope that was a very longggggggg lens:>))
Well, not matter what kind of snake it was, I'd be running in the opposite direction! And like Gale said - I hope that was a llllooonnngggg Lens!
I give these guy's all the room they need.
You're correct - that is a cotton mouth & from your pictures - a very big one. I hope you had a real large lens - because you don't want to get close to one. They can be real mean. I see them throughout the summer when I'm running in the park down by the river.
Jowever - they are both great shots!
Nice shot Jimmy. Looks like that guy has been eating quite well, nice and plump.
Nice image of a beautiful animal. Looks healthy. The only one I've seen was on vacation near New Orleans before the "storm".
I don't do Snakes or Bats, Nice photo though
looks like he's had a heavy meal ...
He did look rather fat and happy
