This image is a couple of year old but I just reworked it for a print order. While at it I thought I'd share it on here. Shot in Kaktovik, AK. {}
Impressive, Dan! Wonderful pose, capture and processing! A friend of mine has gone on two photo trips for polar bears. I'd love to do the same!
Thanks for commenting, folks. Glad you enjoyed the shot. They're interesting to watch. Much more sociable than brownies so the moms with cubs aren't freaking out every time they see another bear. Unfortunately there's no inexpensive way to go on a shoot in arctic locations. I went freelance(i.e.no workshop leader) with another photographer and it was still a costly venture. But well worth it.
Glad you all enjoyed the image and thanks for the comments. Wildlife photography is 90 percent showing up and 10 percent just not screwing it up when opportunities arise. In this case with a static subject in good light the showing up part was the difficulty. Darn cold that day.
