Best Way to Merge Two Sets of Pix (from same event)

When I first started using LR, I think I was impressed that it automatically merged two sets of pix from different bodies, from the same event. Meaning, they would show up chronologically.

However, I can't seem to do do that any longer. I'm still on LR2, BTW.

Approach #1: I DL one set of pix (e.g. D3) to its own folder, cull, and then copy over to the other set of pix's folder (.e.g D3s). I sort by "Capture Time", no go. All the pix are presented in a set of D300 pix and D3s pix.

Approach #2: I DL one set in a folder, w/ numbering starting @ #1; say it goes to 500. I then DL the other set into the same folder, starting w/ #501. I cull, then sort by "Capture Time". Still no go.

Any other suggestions?

TIA.

Are the cameras synced for time on their clocks?
If not sort by camera and adjust capture time for one cameras set of images.
They ought to sort by Capture time easily!!
