Bird flu

Discussion in 'Birds' started by Phil K, Oct 19, 2005.

  1. Every winter I would take my family to Mai Po Wetlands Reserve in Norhtern Hong Kong for a charity hike and watch the thousands of migrating birds there. This year I am prepared to take my D2X and borrow my friend's 300mm to take some photos. But my wife is very strong against going because of the bird flu issue. I think it's a bit over-reacting, but agree it's better to play safe.

Then I think of the bird shooters of our Cafe. I know it's not a big threat right now (no case in US so far) but guys, just be careful and watch the development closely.

  2. Forgive me if I'm wrong, but doesn't that flu have to morph into a human strain before it affects us? Or am I not reading things correctly?

  3. Right now it can be transmitted from birds to bird, and bird to human (about 120 confirmed cases, with 60 death). When it mutates and be able to transmit from human to human, we will be in great trouble.
