Bird IDs please.

    Several birds in this photo - duck and sandpipers? Several of these look very much alike to me, perhaps the experts can sort them.

    American Black Duck
    Yellowlegs sp(larger sandpiper)
    Purple Sandpiper (closest sandpiper on rt) *I'm a bit rusty with the Calidris sandpipers, so don't take that one to the bank...

    Thanks vinman. Many of these birds look the same to me, but I'm getting better and finding birds much more interesting.

  4. No offense to vinman but that's a Mallard. Black Ducks do not have white edges on the speculum (that little blue panel :wink:)  The bird behind it in indeed a Greater Yellowlegs. The bird behind the yellowlegs appears to be a possible juvenile Stilt Sandpiper and the 2 birds in the foreground are dowitchers, most likely Long-billed Dowitchers.
