Hello, Everyone,
Hope you all had a Happy Easter!
I woke up on Easter Morning to find that my population of Yellow-rumped ("Myrtle") Warblers has increased from 20 to 50. I had around 30 at the beginning of fall and early winter. They decreased by 4 for the remainder of winter. A little over a week ago I had 20 and now I still have 50.
Winter Wren has left and I haven't seen the two Brown Creepers that were here since Saturday.
I had one Yellow-bellied Sapsuckers since October but haven't seen him in two days.
One male Ruby-kinglet is still here.
The pair of Eastern Bluebirds were still coming around but the male appeared to have injured his right leg. I really feel that he didn't make it. He came for two days and was having trouble standing on his right leg. The female is still coming and for the first time I've seen her with a new male. A couple of times I had two pairs of Eastern Bluebirds. The newer pair took over a nest box that a pair of Carolina Chickadees were claiming. The E. Bluebirds nest is almost completed and the Carolina Chickadees went to another box and built a nest.
The White-breasted Nuthatch did not nest in my yard but close to it. They tend to build earlier than the other small birds. The female WBN has apparently been sitting on a nest as I haven't seen her in about a week. The male WBN is constantly coming around and eating.
I still have two brown-headed Nuthatches. Now, only one is coming in my yard and I am hoping that they nested somewhere close.
I have about 30 to 40 White-throated Sparrows.
The two male Pine Warblers are still here.

PS: Last Thursday my son called for me to come to the front yard. I went and he pointed out a male Northern Cardinal on the road that apparently was hit by a car but still moving. I jumped the ditch, held my left hand out to stop traffic and removed the N. Cardinal. I placed him in a empty tray and went inside to get my other son to take me and the N. C. to the Animal Medical Center. They said that the bird did not appear to be injured and that it might just end up as a dumb, flightless cage bird. I took him home and then drove across town to PetSmart to purchase a bird cage for him until morning. He seems to be OK when I woke up the next morning. My husband and I release him from the bird cage. That N. Cardinal flew like a bullet as fast as he could. I was so happy that he did not have to live his life in a cage.
