Birds of the Long Beach Peninsula, Washington

  1. While spending an extra few days over the Labor Day Holiday on the Long Beach Peninsula, Washington, I found a lot of different birds to photograph. I had the opportunity of shoot on the beach, the tide flats and at a local pond which was rich with wildlife. These were all taken with a 70-200VR and the TC1.4 I recently purchased.

Early in the morning on the tide flats the song birds gather to eat what seeds are left on the standing weeds, so it's a good time to shoot Gold Finches, and while I was shooting much to my surprise a hawk came out of nowhere and was after one of the birds, I think. The first shot of the hawk was a real surprise to me (bad shot) but then he turned and came right for me, he may have been after me this time.

Had a great weekend and love the TC1.4 on the 70-200VR.

Nicely done. That second hawk shot is a beauty.

  4. Thanks Neil. I was somewhat surprised to look up and see the hawk actually coming straight for me, so the focus etc wasn't the best. At least that's my excuse.
