My first outing with the Sigma 150-500mm OS. Unfortunately, it was a cold and gloomy day. I could only manage a few decent shots. I know the first one is a goose, not sure about the others. All shot handheld, 500mm @ f6.3, no crop. I'm sure this lens will perform better on a better day.

Ananth,

Not sure about the 2nd - thinking it's a type of sparrow or wren. #3 is an Eastern Bluebird. Terrific color in those.

Tough to handhold 500mm on a gloomy day. Have fun with that lens!

Thanks Baxter! It is quite a heavy lens, and the zooming is weighty and stiff. And I was shivering in the cold. But it is a fun lens!

Thanks Herschel! The blue one was really beautiful, but kept flying away everytime I tried to get closer. Looks like I'll learn a lot more about birds with this lens!

Shots numbers 2 & 3 (assuming 3 is same bird as 2) = Song Sparrow, quite common here in Maryland and very identifiable with that dark spot on its chest. Can't quite see the spot in shot #3, so if that is a different bird it's possible it's a different kind of sparrow.

Thanks Sarah, that is good information! It is the same bird in both #2 and #3. I am in Maryland (Columbia area). I'd appreciate any tips on places to go for bird photography in MD.
