Brand New Wild Horse Foal

Discussion in 'Other Animals' started by davidwcramer, Jun 5, 2007.

  1. I think I missed the birth of this little one by an hour or so. The rest of the pack had not even discovered its existance yet. Here s/he is in all her/his glory, wobbly legs and all.

And here is the pack spotting her for the first time.

The young white mare was very curious. And this brought the stallion over as well.

He took a couple of sniffs and went on about his business of grazing. But the white mare persisted, and mom didn't seem to know what to do at first. But she eventually figured it out.

After several go rounds like this, finally all it took was a look from mom.

After about thirty minutes, the white mare gave them some peace.

As you might imagine, it was quite exciting to witness the interactions. I'm wondering if the young white mare is also pregnant.

Great timing and it tells a story. Thanks for posting!
  8. What terrific images, David. The lighting is great and the captures show us the lives of wild horses in a way most of us never have the chance to see. Adorable little colt.

Wow what a beautiful Mom and Baby.

    Great series and wondeful images
    Thank You

So glad you get to witness this wonder in the wild

    I am not very creative.
But have a name for the baby

  10. You are quite welcome, Wade. It was partly cloudy, but the sun came out ever now and then, and usually at the right moment! Thanks for your comments.

Thanks Louie. It was quite interesting watching the young mare. She became quite obsessed with the new little one.

    Thank you very much John!

Much appreciated Virginia. More than half the time I just sit and watch them graze... not much drama. So it's quite fun to get rewarded with experiences such as this one.

    Thanks Jeff.

    Thanks for commenting Dave.

Thanks, Sandi. The mother put up with the white mare for a while, then she grew weary of all of that attention.

Thanks for the suggestion Gale! It's a better name than the one I gave the last one - skunk tail.

Great shots! What a treat to be able to watch something like this unfold. Is this far from where you live?

Great shots and a great story. Maybe we get to see how the young foal matures?

Excellent series David. #2 really grabs my attention!
  14. Thanks Haze. The spot where I captured these images is six miles from my home.

Much appreciated Torben. I sure hope I can chronicle their years.
Thanks John. The horse in #2 also had her attention grabbed... by the new foal.
  15. WOW! AWWWW! Dunno what to say first! LOL! PRecious little baby! The white horse is gorgeous! Love the interaction of the pack too! We just can't get enough of your horses! Keep em comin!
  16. Thanks Dianne. The pack is growing every week!
  17. Excellent sequence David! It tells the story well. The color, light and technicals are all first rate. Very well done!

Wonderful shots and great to view. I think the 4th shot with the mother protecting her foal is a classic.
