Nice capture.
Never one of these birds.
Thank you Bob. Here is a map from merlin where these waterfowl reside and breed.

Well captured - exposure is tight on too, not easy with the high contrast.
Thank you Allan. They where slightly underexposed, as I was shooting hand held and wanted to keep the shutter speed fast "4K" enough to avoid blur "which can not be fixed" with the D850, even though the Nikon 200-500mm f5.6 VR is excellent. The D850 is less forgiving with it's 45 megapixel sensor than my D500 with it's 20 megapixel sensor. I also like to keep my ISO maxed at 1250, regardless of the denoise software out there, you will lose dynamic range and loss of detail in the original image, the lower the initial ISO the better the end result.
Edited using DXOPhotolab4 and Affinity Photo.

Nice captures. Brandt are interesting birds. A few years ago I went on a hunt with some friends to Cold Bay in the Aleutians. Of course I just took my camera but they generously shared when they roasted some of them. Delicious. Taste like good beef.
