British Superbikes - Brands Hatch, 9th April

Discussion in 'Sports Photography' started by Radiohead, Apr 9, 2007.

  1. Just back after a brilliant day as guests of the Samsung Dienza team and spent the whole day in the paddock with Dean Thomas and Enzo, the team boss. Naturally I took the camera:

    There were bikes:

    Chris Walker

    Canon EOS 5D    ---    105mm    f/10.0    1/160s    ISO 200

    Shane Byrne:

    Canon EOS 5D    ---    105mm    f/13.0    1/160s    ISO 200

    Spitting flames:

    Canon EOS 5D    ---    105mm    f/5.6    1/500s    ISO 200

Shane Bryrne's shredded rear after Race 1:

    Canon EOS 5D    ---    105mm    f/4.5    1/400s    ISO 200

    There were the racers:

    Gregorio Lavilla:

    Canon EOS 5D    ---    105mm    f/4.5    1/30s    ISO 200

    Kyonari ponders race 2:

    Canon EOS 5D    ---    105mm    f/4.5    1/400s    ISO 200

    Will it fit:

    Canon EOS 5D    ---    105mm    f/4.0    1/1250s    ISO 400

    An ex-Gladiator:

    Canon EOS 5D    ---    105mm    f/4.0    1/1600s    ISO 200
  2. And there were quite of lot of women not wearing much:

    Canon EOS 5D    ---    70mm    f/4.0    1/640s    ISO 200

    Canon EOS 5D    ---    105mm    f/4.5    1/320s    ISO 200

    Canon EOS 5D    ---    105mm    f/4.5    1/1600s    ISO 200

    Canon EOS 5D    ---    88mm    f/4.5    1/1600s    ISO 200

    Canon EOS 5D    ---    35mm    f/4.0    1/500s    ISO 400

All shot with the 5D and 24-105L.

Excellent job panning on the first three. Bike races are still a few weeks away around here.
  5. Great shots of the bikes, now if that was me1 shooting I would come home with gigs worth of pictures but no bikes only girls
  6. I was just about to say that
  7. Loads more shots of the ladies at home :D

I notice your 24-105mm f/4 IS L lens is mostly stuck at the tele end except for 3 images posted. The bike panning shots could benefit more by zooming in or from a tighter crop especially since it's coming from the 5D.

Great shots - both bikes and pics!

What is it about bikes and girls? Accidentally captured these at the NEC last year:

  10. They are crops - I was about 60 feet from the track. I'm not sure how much more I could have zoomed a 105mm lens bearing in mind I was at 105mm with a BIG fence in front of me. Here's an uncropped bike shot by way of reference:

I was woefully under-lensed that day, no question about that. I didn't go to capture on track action though, these were just an effort with what I had.
