This year the mosquitoes in many areas of Alaska are among the worst we've seen. I haven't been up north this year, where mosquitoes are always bad (10,000 mosquitoes emerge per square meter of moist tundra in the arctic). This bear was on Stoney Hill in Denali National Park. Thousands of mosquitoes got into our truck when I had the window down photographing this guy.

Great shot, Steve! Really shows how big the mosquitos are!

Are the black flies also out in larger-than-usual numbers?

We bought head nets for our trip to Alaska...and USED them! LOL!

Generally black flies aren't a problem in Denali, or our area, though at times they can get annoying. Thanks for the compliments, Karen!

Wow, great shot...!
Thanks William!

That shot was worth having those bugs in your truck. They're bad here (Idaho) too.
