Cafe Challenge #38 - "Daily things" - Topic Thread

Discussion in 'Challenge and Contests Forum' started by alex from holland, May 8, 2007.

  1. Welcome to Cafe Challenge #38

It's an honour for me to host this challenge and I hope many of you will find the time and creativity to enter a photograph!

I'd also like to thank Graeme for his wonderful handling of Challenge #37!

As my english is not my home language i hope Graeme doesn't mind i took the text from his challenge nr 37 !!!!!
So please forgive me if there are any spelling mistakes

The topic for this Challenge will be:

    "Daily Things"

To give you some hints :

    Cutting the grass
    Cooking a dinner
    Driving at work
    Taking a picture

You can interpret this anyway you like............... Just be creative !!

The Challenge will start now and end on Saturday 19th may 2007 at 18.00hrs utc/gmt.

To avoid a time discussion please see the below link!

Good luck everyone, but most importantly............. HAVE FUN!

    1. Every participant is allowed one picture per challenge.

    2. The picture has to be taken between the submission start and end date.
This is to make it a "Challenge" and not just another "Best
    Picture Contest"

    3. The posted picture must remain unaltered, once posted.
But the text of the participation may be edited/changed, as often as
necessary (for possible exceptions contact the Challenge Leader)!

    4. Pictures may be processed/edited and worked on, in post production
before submitting them, but the main picture/content must have been
    taken during the submission dates.

    5. Somewhat controversial pictures are permitted, but please use your
judgment and keep it within reason. ( Note that this community should
remain suitable for all age groups )

    6. If there are any questions or obscurities the Challenge Leader is the
person to appeal and to decide.

    Further Guidelines and Suggestions
    for Participation:

    - Please feel free to give your picture a title, and even explain it a little!

    - When posting the submission it is might be welcomed, to share some
Information about the shot. This could be done by posting the EXIF-data or
just sharing the equipment used or the exposure. For example:

    Shot_on_Date, Focal_Length, Aperture, Shutter_Speed, ISO, Priority,
    Metering, Compensation, Flash

    - Try to keep the submission at 965 pixels (extreme formats,
like panoramas, may require more). Just keep in mind the cafe server resizes
pictures larger than 965 pixels and provides a link to the original size.

    - To save even more bandwidth, it might be reasonable to adjust the
compression (while saving it as jpg), to keep the file size under 500kb
(jpg-compression: 60%-80% may be optimal for most pictures).
This should keep loading times to a minimum.
  2. Alex, this sounds pretty interesting. The wheels are starting to turn. Everyone better look out!
  3. Alex, of course I don't mind!

Great topic with an infinite amount of interpretation!

I think we are in for some fantastic entries here!

And well done on winning Challenge #37!

  4. Why is the submission thread for this challenge closed?

  5. Justin , it isn't "closed"
Look at the submission thread and see at the end of the message. That link gives you the possibility to post your picture anonymous.

It's a bit confusing ( it was for me the first time) , but just give it a try.

  6. Hey Alex -

This is a fine topic with many possible interpretations - well chosen!

Also, congratulations on your excellent photo in challenge 37.

I will do my best to participate but in any case, I know that I will check in often to see the amazing submissions.

  7. Would a photograph of me sitting out on the lawn, waiting for the UPS man to deliver my new lens be boring?? O wait, I only *wish* that I did that daily. Sigh........

Great topic, I may finally have a try at the Challenges!
