The Pilgrims landed near Provincetown instead of the area that had been chartered to them by England, so they felt they needed a governing document. This memorial commemorates the signing of that document on the Mayflower.

Provincetown was celebrating its annual Carnival while my wife and I were there. Though the small streets were crowded with pedestrians, bicycles and automobiles, I'm sure it was nothing compared to the pre-pandemic times. Indeed, about two weeks before we were there, America's Center for Disease Control essentially named Provincetown the poster child of the rapidly increasing rate of COVID-19 Delta disease.

This fence at Herringcove Beach looking out upon Cape Cod Bay was probably installed to block the sand blowing in the wind.

The Breakwater is the name of the 1.25-mile-long dike that connects Provincetown with the land across the water where two lighthouses stand. One of them, Wood End Lighthouse, can just barely be seen to the right of the dike in this image. Notice that the water is much smoother on the right than on the left because of the dike. Tourists regularly walk out and back the full length of the Breakwater but I just wanted to photograph it.
